Personal life and treatment philosophy
Outside of the office, Dr. McKeta has always been drawn to the water and to hands-on, technical pursuits. He earned his private pilot’s certificate during dental school. He has been a certified SCUBA diver since age 1995 and spent over a decade volunteering as a diver at the South Carolina Aquarium, logging more than 2,000 hours. He and his wife, Angie — a two-time Physician Assistant of the Year at the Medical University of South Carolina — have been avid sailors for years.
Growing up around dentistry, with a grandfather who was a general dentist and a stepfather who was a pediatric dentist, Dr. McKeta developed an early understanding of patient care that continues to shape his philosophy today. His approach blends traditional, relationship-based care with a strong emphasis on current research. He is known for a conservative treatment philosophy, focusing on what is truly necessary and appropriate for each patient rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.
Dr. McKeta’s experience spans a wide range of cases, from children and adults with mild alignment concerns to more complex conditions including cleft palate, Turner syndrome, and surgical orthodontics. Regardless of complexity, his priority remains the same: taking the time to do things carefully, prioritizing long-term outcomes, and avoiding unnecessary treatment whenever possible. Patients appreciate his measured, detail-oriented approach and his commitment to doing what is right for each individual.
